While a St. Patrick’s Day Pub Crawl may sound fun to some, not all people enjoy being cooped up with a bunch of rowdy strangers looking to get Irish kisses. Sometimes throwing your own party at home can actually be the best choice.
Having your own party doesn’t take as much work as you might think. There are three aspects that make a great St. Patrick’s Day get-together: the outfits, the decorations and the food.
There’s one rule when it comes to St. Patrick’s Day attire, and as you already know, that rule is that it must be green. Whether it be your pants, your shirt, your shoes, your jewelry; you must be wearing green in some form or fashion. Maybe even think about getting some green face paint or hair dye. If you want to take it a step further, dress up as a leprechaun. But remember, if you do this, you have to do it right and go all out with the white stockings, a green top hat and a red beard.
St. Patty’s Day party decorations can be as simple or as intricate as you wish. If you’re on a budget, green balloons and streamers are really all you need. You can also get a pack of green paper shamrocks pretty inexpensively from discount stores and use these to make shamrock wreaths or banners.
There are two ways to make food perfectly themed for the holiday. One is to make a traditional Irish meal, and the second is to simply have green snacks.

Corn Beef and Cabbage
3 cups carrots, cut into 1-inch thick slices
4 cups medium potatoes, unpeeled, cut into 1-inch pieces
1 large onion, cut into thin wedges
1 corned beef brisket (2 to 2 ½ lbs.)
4 cups water
1 cup Moore’s Original Marinade
¼ teaspoon ground black pepper
6 whole cloves
1 dried bay leaf
-In 5- to 6-quart slow cooker, mix carrots, potatoes and onion
-Cut corned beef brisket to fit into slow cooker; place over vegetables. Add enough of the water to cover.
-Cover; cook on low setting 10 to 12 hours.
-Remove and discard bay leaf. Remove brisket from slow cooker, and cut brisket into thin slices. Place vegetables in bowl for serving.
