A BBQ Team to Talk About: Holy Smokes

A BBQ Team to Talk About: Holy Smokes
In honor of National BBQ Month, we’re taking a minute to spotlight one of our BBQ Teams: Holy Smokes!

Based out of Dublin, GA and made up Gary and Dionn Lanton, Holy Smokes began with a passion for cooking and community. Before they competed, the Lantons tested their BBQ skills on friends and family in Georgia-style backyard cookouts. After years of practice, they entered and placed in their first-ever BBQ competition in their hometown.  And so it began…

Holy Smokes has come a long way since that first competition.  They are now one of the most well-regarded BBQ teams in the country, competing in their home state of Georgia and across the South.

When they’re not competing, the Lantons operate the Holy Smokes BBQ Food Truck, which is located on the busiest corner in Dublin.  The food truck offers a variety of BBQ items, including favorites like pulled pork and ribs as well as their own mouthwatering creations such as the BBQ Baked Potato, Quesadilla or Loaded Potato Salad.  Be sure to take a road trip to Dublin to indulge your appetite, play some corn hole and join their many regulars at the picnic tables.

You’ll also want to visit Gary and Dionn at a BBQ competition this season.  If you’re lucky, you may catch them sampling their Moore’s Chicken Wings, made with our Original Buffalo, Creamy Ranch Buffalo and Blue Cheese Buffalo wing sauces.  Check out what people thought of Holy Smokes’ Moore’s Chicken Wings at the Jekyll Island BBQ Beach Bash this year in the video below.

But don’t take our word for it – try the Moore’s Wing Sauces for yourself!  Let us know which one is your favorite!

Gary and Dionn’s love of good BBQ doesn’t stop with cooking competitions or their food truck—their passion for the pit extends much further.  Holy Smokes is a long-time volunteer of Operation BBQ Relief, an organization that brings together volunteer BBQ competition teams to prepare meals for those who are affected by natural disasters across the country.  The Lantons are proud of their participation in OBR and look for any opportunity to support their community.  To them, community is really what the BBQ world is all about.

"The BBQ community isn't just a community, it's a family,” Gary said. “We may live hundreds of miles apart but we see each other often. We share in each other's wins and defeats. We pray for one another when times are tough and we celebrate in each other's victories. We know that we always have each other's back. It's a blessing to be a part of such a tight family. I wouldn't have it any other way.”

Holy Smokes truly goes above and beyond in many ways, and for that reason we are so happy to have them as part of the Moore’s Family.  To learn more about Holy Smokes, visit our BBQ team page and make sure to follow them on social media!
