10 BBQ Events to Attend this Summer
Calling all BBQ enthusiasts! BBQ competition season is in full swing, and you don’t want to miss these 10 upcoming events! In case you didn’t know, Moore’s Marinades and Sauces sponsors several BBQ teams, including Bootyque, 407 BBQ, Holy Smokes, The Smokehouse Mafia, Smokin’ Butts and Reed Boyz BBQ, who compete throughout the year at various competitions all over the country. We’re so proud and grateful to have these teams as a part of the Moore’s family. If you attend any of the events listed below, be sure to stop by their tents for a taste! 
 
  1. Jiggy with the Piggy: The Smokehouse Mafia BBQ team will be competing in Jiggy with the Piggy, which will be held May 5-6 in Kannapolis, NC. The event is a 36-year tradition that features a Kansas City Barbeque Society Competition, rides, 5k Walk/Run, arts and craft vendors, concerts, an outdoors movie, an all-you-can-eat pancake breakfast and People's Choice BBQ and Wings Tasting.
  2. Memphis in May: On May 17-20, the Bootyque team will be competing at Memphis in May, which is America's most prestigious barbecue cooking competition, and this year it’s celebrating the legacy of its 40th year in Memphis, TN! 
  3. Wing Ding: This cook-off held in Birmingham, AL features great chicken wings, refreshments, live music and kid-friendly activities with all proceeds benefiting CF. The event will be held on Saturday, May 20th on the lawn of the Vestavia City Hall. Moore’s local hometown chef, John Miller, will be manning the grill, serving up fresh, hot wings.
  4. Salt City BBQ Festival: The Salt City BBQ Festival features BBQ restaurants selling great BBQ, a Kansas City BBQ Society sanctioned BBQ contest, music and beer.  It doubles as a fundraiser for Phoenix Philosophies, an organization that purchases and renovates homes to house homeless veterans in Syracuse, NY. Reed Boyz BBQ will be competing in this year’s event, which will be held on May 21. 
  5. Kings of Q: On May 17-20, The Smokehouse Mafia BBQ team will be competing at Kings of Q, which is a North Carolina State Championship sanctioned by the Kansas City Barbeque Society and named after the two local “Kings of Q”, Latham “Bum” Dennis and the late Pete Jones.
  6. Smoke on the Water: The Holy Smokes BBQ team will be competing in the 10th Annual Smoke on the Water BBQ Cook-Off and Music Festival in Thomaston, GA on May 19-20. If you’re local to the area, stop by Thomaston for good company, great music and even better barbecue! 
  7. Papa Joe’s Banjo BBQ: The Bootyque, The Smokehouse Mafia, Bootyque and Holy Smokes BBQ teams will be competing at Papa Joe’s Banjo BBQ Cook-Off on May 26-27 in Evans, GA. This cook-off is a part of a 2-day music festival! 
  8. Hog Happenin’: At this event, The Smokehouse Mafia BBQ team will be competing to put the “hog” in the Hog Happenin.’ This regional bike fest and Kansas City Barbeque Society Sanctioned North Carolina State Championship Barbeque Cook-off brings motorcycle owners and barbeque teams together in downtown Lincolnton, NC. This year’s event will be held on June 2-3. 
  9. Smoke on the Mountain Barbecue Championship: This competition, held every third weekend in July, is Virginia's official state barbecue championship. The weekend is full of mouth-watering barbecue, live music, crafters, children’s activities, and more! Bootyque will be competing at this year’s event, which will be on July 18-19 in Galaz, GA. 
  10. American Royal World Series of BBQ : The American Royal is a non-profit organization based in Kansas City that provides opportunities for youth and adults from around the country to compete in its Livestock Show, ProRodeo and Horse Shows. However, the organization is most known for its largest fundraiser, the World Series of BBQ. This year’s event will be held on Oct. 20-22 in Kansas City. Bootyque and Reed Boyz BBQ will both be grilling fresh ribs, chicken, brisket and more!
